The UP government is transferring $1,100 to students’ parents so they can buy uniforms and other items
The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday informed the members of the state assembly that ₹1,100 was being transferred to the bank accounts of parents of primary school students to buy uniforms, school bags, a pair of shoes, socks, and sweaters and there was no question of purchasing these items through the school management committees.
Sandip Singh, minister of state for basic education (independent charge), provided this information during the question hour in the UP assembly to Samajwadi Party’s Virendra Yadav.
Suresh Khanna, minister for parliamentary affairs, said the decision was made to transfer the money to parents so that uniforms and other items would be the right size. He explained that all these items could be purchased in a package.
Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party chief, believes the quality of these items is in doubt since the price of *1,100 cannot be guaranteed. Moreover, he expressed concern that the state government may stop the DBT in the future.
