Taiwan bans entry of people arriving from India amid Covid Surge
Amid the deadly second wave of coronavirus, Taiwan government has decided to ban travelers from entering the country who have been to India in the previous 14 days. The major announcement was made today by the health minister of Taiwan, Chen Shih – Chung.
Taiwan become the latest country to enforce this restriction. The minister said that this decision was taken because of the rising COVID – 19 cases in India which are increasing on a daily basis.
The minister said that except the citizens of Taiwan no one else will be allowed in the country if they have visited to India in the prior 14 days. The new restrictions will come into effect from today itself and those who are returning Taiwanese from anywhere in the world, they’ll have to spend 14 days in centralized quarantine facilities.
Deputy economy minister Chen Chern – Chyi is also considering sending a special aircraft to avacuate the 150 Taiwanese business people who are stuck in India.
On Monday, India’s COVID – 19 record nearly touched 20 million and more than 3 lakh new coronavirus cases were recorded in a day.
Last week, Indonesia, which has been battling one of Asia’s worst COVID – 19 outbreaks, banned the entry and exit of the foreigners who had been in India in the previoud 14 days.
Malaysia said on Sunday it had detected its first case of the Indian variant, days after imposing a ban on flights from the country.
According to the latest reports, the Indian second variant of the corionavirus has reached more than 17 countries, including Iran and Switzerland. The second mutant has caused enough destruction in India and due to this several countries across the globe have shut their borders to those travelling from India.
As of now, these countries have restricted the entry for travelers from India.
Maldives has banned all flights from India starting April 27.
Kuwait’s India ban too came into effect on April 24.
Italy too has barred entry of foreign travelers who have been in India in the past 14 days.
Indonesia government has decided not to issue any more visas to people who traveled to India in the past 14 days.
France has banned flights from India, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and South Africa.
Canadian government has suspended all flights from India for 30 days.
UAE has banned all flights coming from except for cargos for the next 10 days.
US: The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has issued an advisory urging Americans not to travel to India at all. India is among ‘level 4’ countries, or among those that now have high levels of COVID-19 cases.
The United Kingdom has also added India to its red list of countries and has suspended all the flights coming from India.
