Sonia’s Target On Modi Government, Said- We Did Not Create Fear After Getting Majority
The interim president of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi, targeted the Modi government at the center in gestures on the 75th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi said that Rajiv Gandhi had got an absolute majority but he did not use it to create an atmosphere of fear.
He said that the memory of Rajiv ji is still in our heart. He talked about making India strong, secure and self-sufficient. Rajiv Gandhi was a Prime Minister who talked about the unity of India in a short time and showed the work of changing the basic condition of the country.
It was his decision that the youth of 18 years should get voting rights. Panchayats and municipalities get statutory status. It emerged as the first step of democracy.
He resolved to make a telecom revolution and did it in a short time. Not only did he use the power of technology through nuclear energy, space and missiles, but he used science and technology in the fields of drinking water and agriculture to accelerate the pace of social change.
He made the situation normal by keeping the interests of the Congress Party aside to establish peace in the North-East. Rajiv Gandhi took the first step to globalize India’s economy and make it global. At the same time, he should also be aware that if India has to achieve special status on the world stage, then it will have to remain self-inclusive. This work cannot be done by boasting, shouting slogans, but by performing actions.
Sonia Gandhi said that in 1984 he (Rajiv Gandhi) had won by a huge majority but he did not use that victory to create an atmosphere of fear and to intimidate or threaten. Not to destroy the freedom of institutions. Not to crush dissent and overt views, to threaten democratic tradition and lifestyle.
The UPA chairperson said that in 1989, the Congress could not come back by winning with a full majority. Rajiv accepted this defeat. Despite being the largest political party, Rajiv did not stake claim to form the government. This did not allow him to do so by his moral strength, his generosity and honesty. Sonia said that no one can do this today like Rajiv did and Rahul did.
