SL vs WI, 1st Test: Ramesh Mendis scalps five as hosts register 187-run win
Ramesh Mendis broke five wickets as Sri Lanka beat the West Indies by 187 points in the first test of the two-game series here at Galle International Stadium on Thursday.
Resuming Day 5 on 52/6, night hitters Joshua Da Silva and Nkrumah Bonner knocked him out and the duo added 66 more points overall, leading the visitors’ return.
However, just at the height of the lunch break, Lasith Embuldeniya got the better of Joshua Da Silva (54) and Windies was reduced to 118/7, he needed another 230 to win.
After the lunch break, Praveen Jayawickrama got the better of Rahkeem Cornwall (13) and Sri Lanka were only two wickets away from victory.
The last two batters were sent off cheaply and in the end, Sri Lanka recorded a 187-point victory and a 10-point lead in the two-game series.
