Shah Rukh Khan to play the legendary poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi
Legendary writer-poet Sahir Ludhianvi’s biopic has been doing the rounds of the industry for almost 8 years. Now this movie is back in news as it is now reportedly on the tables of Red chillies entertainment. Rumours have it that King Khan is likely to play the lead in the biopic.
A long time back, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced that he would one day make a biopic on veteran poet Sahir Ludhianvi. Since then, nothing solid was heard about the project. Before Bhansali, Ashi Dua (of ‘Ghost Stories’ and ‘Kaalakaandi’) was supposed to produce it. Now, latest reports suggest that Shah Rukh Khan’s production Red Chillies Entertainment is likely to revive the biopic and King Khan will reportedly play the titular role in the film. However no official confirmation has been made on the same.
Last heard, Bhansali was planning to cast Abhishek Bachchan or Irrfan Khan in the lead. But then reports suggested that he has signed Abhishek Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, as both were spotted at Bhansali’s office a couple of years ago. A report in Mumbai Mirror quoted a source, “Both Abhishek and Taapsee have loved the story and are looking forward to collaborate again. However, they are yet to sign on the dotted line. One the formalities are locked, they will begin prep.”
Apart from them, Bhansali also considered many other actors in the past like Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and many others. The actresses were cropped up to play Amrita Pritam. It was also reported that Farhan was a natural choice for the role of Sahir, as his father is a poet and the actor himself writes poetry. No updates came regarding this either.
Though there is no confirmation about Shah Rukh essaying the role of Sahir Ludhianvi, but it will definitely be worth watching King Khan nailing the role of a poet.
