Shah launches BJP’s campaign for Haryana polls

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday focused on the scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status while launching its election campaign for assembly elections in Haryana.

BJP chief Amit Shah, who launched the poll campaign, questioned why the Congress did not support the government’s decision abrogate provisions of Article 370. He also attacked the party for opposing the ban on instant triple talaq.

People of Haryana should question Congress leaders on their stand on these issues, Shah, who is also the Union home minister, said at a public meeting in Kaithal, Haryana.

“It is because of the support of people of Haryana that the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was able to abrogate Article 370 and 35-A in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was pending for a long time but no party showed the courage to take the decision. (Congress leader) Rahul Gandhi should explain why Congress chose to oppose it. So many soldiers from Haryana have laid down their lives to protect Jammu and Kashmir,” said Shah.

The Congress leadership should rise above party politics on national issues but has decided to oppose the BJP on every issue, he said.

“Whatever the BJP says, the Congress will say the exact opposite. The Congress leadership should at least think why they are opposed to issues that are of national importance. The Congress must rise above party politics on national issues,” Shah said.

The home minister also claimed that the BJP government in Haryana under chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had resolved the law and order problems that were common under the previous administration led by chief minister Om Prakash Chautala as also issues related to corruption under former chief minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

“The governments under Om Prakash Chautala and Bhupinder Singh Hooda worked for some communities. The BJP had promised to end the law and order problem under Chautala and corruption under Hooda. Now the government under M.L. Khattar works for all communities,” said Shah.

Shah promised that by the time of 2024 general elections, there would be no illegal immigrant as a National Register of Citizens (NRC) would be created all over the country
