Prince Harry says there was ‘no choice’ but to give up royal titles
Britain’s Prince Harry expressed “great sadness” on Sunday as he and his wife Meghan being peeled of their royal titles. But he said he saw no other way out but to give up his royal role in search of “a more peaceful life” with his American former actress wife and baby son Archie. He also confessed “It brings me great sadness that it has come to this,” Harry told supporters of his Africa-based charity in London. His emotional first remarks since the separation were aimed at calming a crisis that has shaken the very foundations of Britain’s ancient monarchy”.
“Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the Commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am,” he said.
The UK royal crisis began on January 8 when Harry and Meghan’s announced quitting their front-line roles to focus on the “next chapter”, that has stunned the Royals and is being criticized by everyone in Britain.
On January 13, Queen Elizabeth II agreed to offer Harry and Meghan a “period of transition” during which the couple can divide their time between the UK and Canada. She said all this after the face – to- face interaction with her Grandson.
Queen quoted “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved members of my family,” She added a special message for Meghan, “I am… particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family. It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life”.
“While they can no longer formally represent the Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty,” the palace said.
Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle’s father said that his daughter has ‘cheapened the Royals’ by splitting away from the family and that she was ‘tossing away every girl’s dream’.
Prince Harry added, ” I was born into this life and it is a great honour to serve my country and the Queen,”.
Meghan is already in Canada with the couple’s eight-month-old son Archie and some reports highlights that she may fly back for some pending royal engagements until the new arrangements are done.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry will continue to perform royal duties until that time, which includes a summit for African leaders in London on Monday.
