PM Modi to visit poll-bound Puducherry & Tamil Nadu today, will inaugurate key projects

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stone of several key projects in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. This comes ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to the southern Union Territory and its neighbouring state today.

 Minister of Housing and urban affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri announced and said, “PM to inaugurate and lay foundation stone of several projects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today. Under PM Awas Yojana (Urban), tenements at Veerapandi and Thirukumaran Nagar in Tiruppur, Rajakkur Phase-II in Madurai and Irungalur in Trichy to be inaugurated.”

Around 8a.m. on Thursday, PM Modi tweeted, “Leaving for Puducherry and Tamil Nadu to inaugurate development works that will further ‘Ease of Living’ and economic growth.”

On Wednesday, police in Amravati had stopped the travellers after a restriction was imposed due to an increase in Covid-19 cases.

On Wednesday, PM Modi took to the micro blogging site and wrote, “India is proud of Tamil Nadu’s contribution to national progress. The vibrant Tamil culture is popular globally. Central Government is honoured to be working for TN’s growth. Will be in Coimbatore tomorrow to inaugurate various projects.”

According to the schedule, the Prime Minister will arrive in Puducherry at around 11.30am on Thursday. There PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for four-laning of NH45-A, Minor Port and Synthetic Athletic Track at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex etc.

Around 4:30p.m. the Prime Minister will visit Coimbatore, where he will lay the foundation stone of multiple infrastructure projects worth over ₹12,400 crore.

On Thursday, the department of school education announced a holiday for government and private schools as traffic in the city has been diverted due to the PM Modi’s visit.

In April/May, the Assembly elections are scheduled in both Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. On Monday, after the collapse of the Congress-led government in Puducherry, the territory will be under President’s rule. No other party is likely to lay stake claim to form government.
