Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, welcomed his nation’s athletes returned from Birmingham , where they competed for 61 medals. Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Sports, and Nisith Pramanik, the Minister of State for Sports, were also present.

The 2022 Birmingham Games medal winners will meet with PM Modi at his official house, on Saturday, according to an earlier announcement. Later, the athletes will be honored at a ceremony held at the Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi by the Ministry of Sports.

India won 61 medals, 22 of which were gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze. At the Commonwealth Games 2022, around 200 Indian athletes contended for medals in 16 different sports. India’s wrestlers won a total of Twelve medals at the event, six of which were gold, placing wrestling at the top of the medal standings. Weightlifting was another area where India excelled, as the sport produced 10 medals.

An impressive performance brought the Commonwealth Games 2022’s last day to a close. Three gold medals were won by India there. The closing ceremony took place at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

The performance in wrestling, boxing, and other sports was astounding, and India made several historical moments in 2022.

Indian athletes outperformed nations such as New Zealand and South Africa despite the absence of hall of fame athletes like Mary Kom, Neeraj Chopra, Saina Nehwal, as well as Tajinderpal Singh Toor. Six medal matches took place on the competition’s last day in India.

The following Commonwealth Games will take place in Melbourne and the Australian state of Victoria in 2026. Since 1938, Australia has served as the host six times.

Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, reportedly commented on India’s sporting achievements by saying that the nation is moving toward a “New India.”

Clearly, the Indian contingent made improvements throughout the board. If the shooting had been a component of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, India’s medal total might have eclipsed the amount from 2018.
