Netflix scraps the low-cost version of Bahubali series, plans to make the same on a budget of 200 crores
One of the richest digital platforms of the world, Netflix has now decided to scrap Rs. 100 crore version of its Original, Bahubali: Before The Beginning. It will now work on the show’s new version that will be produced in around Rs. 200 crores.
Back in the year 2018, world’s leading internet entertainment service, Netflix announced an original series, Baahubali: Before the Beginning, based on the global blockbuster franchise, Baahubali. The limited series with 2 seasons will be a prequel to Baahubali: the Beginning and Baahubali: the Conclusion. The platform wanted to work on this series as it felt that Baahubali is one of India’s most beloved stories.
According to latest updates, Netflix will now scrap the already shot Rs. 100 crore version of the series and have already begun work on a new version of the show. This time they will be working with around Rs. 200 crores budget.
A source revealed, “Netflix was not satisfied with the product they had in hand and hence decided to scrap it completely putting Rs 100 crore as bad debts. They reworked on the script, star-cast and technical team and are now reshooting Bahubali: Before The Beginning, on a never seen before, unheard scale for their streaming. They see the potential in Bahubali of being India’s answer to Game of Thrones, and hence, they have decided to take things a notch higher. The overall budget for the new part is Rs. 200 crore, and if we add the scrap value, the project now is worth Rs 300 crore.”
The series will be produced by SS Rajamouli and Netflix. This limited series with have 9 episode and will show the rise of queen Shivagami’s journey from a rebellious and vengeful girl to a wise and unequalled queen. Touted to be a prequel to Bahubali, the series set in the world of Mahishmati.
The original cast featured Mrunal Thakur as Shivagami. Anoop Soni and Rahul Bose were also expected to play pivotal roles.
