Nabbed Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist was trying to kill a cop: IG Baramulla
Police on Sunday arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) terrorist identified as Mohsin Manzoor Salhea, who was allegedly planning to kill a cop.
Police even recovered arms and ammunition from Mohsin’s possession who was a resident of old town Baramulla and had joined the terror outfit a month back.
One pistol with a magazine full of live rounds was recovered from Salha’s possession, police said.
Mohsin was said to be part of a newly raised terror module. A group of three was activated just before August 5 with instructions to carry out terror activities in Baramulla District in North Kashmir, police said.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said, “Terror plot of the module was to target police, security force and other civilian targets to foment violence and trouble so that normalcy does not return to the Valley.”
Mohsin was arrested at a checkpoint between Baramulla and Sopore, police said.
It was found that Mohsin was scheduled to meet another Jaish member.
The group of Jaish was unable to contact their base in Pakistan and were planning to go about targeting the security forces on their own.
Mohsin had a narrow escape on August 22, when the first encounter took place between security forces and terrorists after the Centre ended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on August 5.
While Mohsin and his associate Iqbal Naikoo managed to escape the Jaish terror base, a special police officer (SPO) was killed in Ganie-Hamam area of Baramulla district in Kashmir during the encounter. Sub Inspector Amardeep was also seriously injured.
