Modi-Xi informal summit updates: Differences won’t become disputes, PM says at delegation talks
Modi-Xi meet: After nearly two-and-a-half hours of “open and cordial” one-on-one free-wheeling talks on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese president Xi Jinping will again meet today in Mamalllapuram to continue their talks. Following the one-on-one meeting, India and China will hold delegation level talks including top officials. The two sides will also issue separate statements on the outcomes of the two-day informal summit between PM Modi and President Xi. In the talks, India and China are likely to try finding ways of bolstering counter-terror cooperation, enhance trade and cooperation between militaries along the 3,500 km border.
“The first informal summit between India and China last year in Wuhan led to fresh stability in our relations and gave a fresh momentum. Strategic communication between our two countries has also increased,” PM Modi said.
“We are overwhelmed by India’s sincere welcome. This will be memorable visit for us. This will be a far-reaching impact on us. We made the right decision for this kind of informal summit,” Xi Jinping said.

The meeting comes at a time when ties between India and China is under renewed strain over Kashmir after a joint statement issued after talks between Xi Jinping and Pakistan PM Imran Khan said China is paying “close attention” to the situation in the Valley.
On Day 1, both the leaders discussed about bilateral development partnership and insulating the overall ties from differences over contentious issues.
However, there was no official word on whether PM Narendra Modi and Xi Jinping discussed the Kashmir issue on Day 1.
