MDH Spices Owner And Iconic Face Dharampal Gulati Dies At 97

Mahashay’ Dharampal Gulati, the owner of the masala brand MDH passed away at the age of 98.
Gulati who had become synonymous with the brand was undergoing treatment at a hospital in New Delhi for three weeks and he died on Thursday morning after he suffered a cardiac arrest.


He became a household name and face by appearing in MDH’s television and print commercials. 

Fondly called ‘dadaji’, ‘Mahashayji’

Fondly called ‘dadaji’ and ‘Mahashayji’, Gulati was born in Sialkot, Pakistan in 1923.
After dropping out of school, Gulati joined his father Mahashay Chunni Lal Gulati’s small spices shop in Sialkot.
In 1947, Gulati moved to India with just Rs 1,500 in his pocket and did some odd jobs to make a living. 
Later he opened a shop in Karol Bagh in Delhi under the same name the family was running the business in Sialkot.
