Five new players have been signed by MI Cape Town ahead of the debut of the T20 League for Cricket South Africa. The players will become a part of the #OneFamily squad and wear the recognisable blue and gold gear that MI fans have grown to appreciate. Three foreign players, one South African with international experience and one without it, make up the “MI Cape Town” roster. Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani stated, “I am excited as we start our adventure to develop “MI Cape Town.”
By signing direct players, we have begun the process of implementing the MI philosophy, which calls for establishing a solid foundation upon which to construct the squad. Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and I are delighted to join the #OneFamily. Dewald Brevis will be joining us as we continue on this new journey. We are confident that MI Cape Town, like the other two teams, will play the style of daring cricket for which MI is known.
The players mentioned have demonstrated consistency over time, and Dewald Brevis, an uncapped player, had a breakout season with the Mumbai Indians in 2022. In accordance with the T20 league’s regulations, the players were contracted before the auctions. A team dedicated to Cape Town fans called “MI Cape Town,” or phonetically “MY Cape Town,” was revealed by MI earlier this week.
The two new franchisees joining Mumbai Indians have been given names and brand identities by the oil-to-telecom behemoth Reliance Industries. These franchises are MI Cape Town in the Cricket South Africa T20 League and MI Emirates in the UAE’s International League T20.
The new squads adopt the Mumbai Indians authenticity and add local flavor, according to the official RIL announcement.
