Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Mimi’ to release on OTT
Producer Dinesh Vijan’s upcoming film Mimi starring actress Kriti Sanon is reportedly moving towards direct to digital release. Dinesh wanted to release the movie in theatre but the deadly second wave of the coronavirus quashed all his plans.
Bollywood Kriti Sanon who made her debut in Heropanti opposite Tiger Shroff, has done many movies and has played different characters in those movies. The actress will soon be seen in Laxman Utekar’s social drama ‘Mimi’ which will be her first woman centric film. Kriti will be spearheading the movie by essaying the role of a surrogate mother.
Till last year, the makers didn’t want to release it online and wanted to wait for the pandemic like situation to end so as to give it a proper theatrical release. But due to the current covid situation in the country, they have planned to release it online.
A source revealed, “Dinesh Vijan has inked a huge deal with a big streaming giant to premiere Kriti’s Mimi, along with a few other projects that are already in place. While the team wanted to release their movies in theatres and even tried the same with Roohi, the current situation looks extremely bleak for theatres to even think of reopening. It doesn’t seem likely in the next three months, because there is a possibility of a third wave.”
The source further added, “Dinesh has checked all possibilities and finally decided to go online with Mimi. He has earned a good profit and is expected to make the announcement soon.”
Mimi which is loosely based on the 2011 Marathi film ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy’ also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Manoj Pahwa and Supriya Pathak.
Kriti also has Dinesh Vijan’s Hum do humare do alongside Rajkumar Rao.
Other than Mimi, Kriti has a lot in her plate. She will be sharing screen with Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Sunny Singh in the upcoming period drama Adipurush. Kriti will feature in horror comedy Bhediya opposite Varun Dhawan and will also reunite with Akshay Kumar in the masala entertainer Bachchan Pandey.
