Kiran Bedi replaced by Telengana Governor as Lt Gen, thanked Centre
On Tuesday, Kiran Bedi was removed as Puducherry Lieutenant Governor. She thanked he Government for a lifetime experience in serving the union territory and also said that her team in the office had worked diligently to serve large public interest.
“I thank the Government of India for a lifetime experience in serving Puducherry as its Lt Governor. I also thank all who worked with me closely,” Bedi said on Wednesday.
Appreciating her team, Bedi further said, “I can say with deep sense of satisfaction that during this tenure ‘Team Raj Nivas’ diligently worked to serve larger public interest.”
On Tuesday, when Puducherry was facing political crisis after Congress MLA`S resigned from V Narayanasamy government, Kiran Bedi was removed from her post in the night. This is seen as a sudden action.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and Kiran Bedi were the head in the Union territory. Ajay Kumar Singh, Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman in a brief said that the President has directed that Bedi “shall cease to hold the office of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry”.
Telengana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan was given the charge of Union territory by President Ram Nath Kovind “with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office, until regular arrangements for the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry are made”.
Kiran Bedi, the retired IPS officer till late Tuesday evening was issuing directions for bringing police force and sanitisation workers in the frontline worker category for the vaccination and was reviewing the COVID-19 vaccine drive in the Union Territory.
Also, on Tuesday, few MLA`s resigned and the Congress-led government as reduced to minority.
On Tuesday, a Congress MLA resigned from the Puducherry assembly, that has brought the party below minority mark in the House. This development came a day ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Union Territory (UT) and just months before assembly elections there.
John Kumar resigned on Tuesday. Kumar resigned after health minister Malladi Krishna Rao announced he was quitting the House on Monday. Two Congress MLAs– A Namassivayam, and E Theepaindan — resigned in January this year and later flew to Delhi to join the BJP. Another Congress MLA, N Dhanavelu, was disqualified in July 2020 for anti-party activities.
