Kangana Ranaut permanently removed from Twitter after controversial tweets on West Bengal elections
On Tuesday, Twitter ‘permanently suspended’ the account of bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut who had over million followers on the site. The move came after she tweeted her reaction on the recent West Bengal assembly election results.
On Sunday, Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress won a landslide victory in the West Bengal assembly elections. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut took to twitter and reacted to Banerjee’s win. She seems to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ‘tame’ Banerjee by using his ‘Virat Roop’ from “early 2000s” in Bengal.
Her series of tweets sparked outrage and hence, Twitter decided to permanently remove the actress from the site.
While stating the reason, a Twitter spokesperson said, “We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behaviour that has the potential to lead to offline harm. The referenced account has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of Twitter Rules specifically our Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour policy. We enforce the Twitter Rules judiciously and impartially for everyone on our service.”
The spokesperson further added, “As explained in our abusive behaviour policy, you may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so. We consider abusive behavior an attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else’s voice.”
The actress also reacted on Twitter’s move and told ANI, “Twitter has only proved my point they are Americans and by birth, a white person feels entitled to enslave a brown person, they want to tell you what to think, speak or do, fortunately, I have many platforms I can use to raise my voice including my own art in the form of cinema but my heart goes out to the people of this nation who have been tortured, enslaved and censored for thousands of years and still there is no end to the suffering.”
The actress shared several screenshots on her Instagram stories and reacted to the suspension.
This is not the first time that the account of the four-time National Award winner was removed by the micro blogging site. Earlier this year, Twitter imposed certain restrictions on her after she posted an incendiary tweet against Amazon Prime Video series Tandav.
