Kabir Singh producer Murad Khetani beats Karan Johar for remake rights of ‘Master’
Murad Khetani who produced the Bollywood blockbuster movie Kabir Singh, is back in news. After the success of his last movie, the producer was looking for original scripts and seems like the producer got what he wished for.
Murad Khetani has now officially bagged the remake rights of the recent blockbuster ‘Master’. The south Indian megahit, Master featuring Vijay and Vijay Setupathi broke all records at the box office. Despite the 50% occupancy restriction in the theatres, this movie collected over Rs 150 crores globally in his opening week itself.
The interesting part is that many producers were in the queue to buy the remake rights to the original. According to a source, “Karan Johar was also trying to get the rights to make Master in Hindi. He was trying really hard but when Murad got a hang of it, he quietly raised his price and bagged the deal.”
According to reports, Murad has bought the rights of the film and will be recreating the movie in Hindi along with Endemol Shine as his production partner. The paperwork is in place and the official announcement for the same will be made anytime soon.
Murad Khetani produced the massive hit Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, which relased on June 21, 2019. The intense love story of Kabir Singh got loads of love from the audience. Kabir Singh was also a remake of Arjun Reddy, which was released in 2017 and minted Rs 510 million in its lifetime.
The source further told that a huge amount was quoted from Cine 1 Studios.
“Murad is keen on making several remakes in the next few years. There’s Thadam, then there’s Namak Halal and now, Master. He paid over Rs. 6 crore just for the rights. He had earlier paid around Rs. 4-5 crore for Arjun Reddy’s official rights, but the moment he heard KJo is also at the other end, he raised his amount and got it. The team is now putting it all together and reworking the script for the Hindi audience. Casting will happen only once the scripting is done.”
The South Indian movie, ‘Master’ is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It features Vijay in the role of a college professor who is up against Vijay Sethupahi, who plays Bhavani in the actioner.
Murad Khetani was able to rediscover the magic in Kabir Singh, and now the audience is excited to see him recreate Master in his next project.
