Jammu and Kashmir: 3 terrorists neutralised, 1 jawan martyred; hostage rescued in Ramban encounter

Three terrorists have been killed in Ramban’s Batote on Jammu-Srinagar highway after they took a person hostage upon being cornered by the security forces. While the person has been rescued, one jawan lost his life in the encounter. At least two encounters between terrorists and Indian Army personnel, and one grenade attack were earlier reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. The first encounter, broke out in Batote after a group of terrorists tried to stop a bus in Batote region and another encounter took place in Ganderbal where one terrorist was killed by the security forces. In another incident, a grenade was hurled at CRPF troops in Srinagar’s Safakadal area and no injury or loss of life was reported.

At around 07:30 am today, two-three terrorists tried to stop a bus in Jammu zone’s Batote area. The driver did not stop the vehicle and informed the Army Quick Response Team (QRT). An exchange of fire immediately broke out between the security forces and the terrorists. The terrorists hurled a grenade on the troops and escaped.

Security forces carried out search operations and cornered the terrorists in Batote’s Main Market. According to reports, there are at least five terrorists involved in the encounter and they have taken one civilian as a hostage.
