After joining the party, the actor said, “I always wanted to do something big in life, but had never dreamt of being a part of such a huge rally which is to be addressed by world’s most popular leader Narendra Modi. I wished to work for the poorer sections of our society, and that wish will now be fulfilled.”
Amid his sea of supporters, he used a dialogue from one of his films and said, “Ami joldhorao noi, bele borao noi… ami ekta cobra, ek chobol-ei chobi (Don’t mistake me for a harmless snake, I am a cobra, can kill people in one bite)”
Chakraborty asserted that he was proud to be a Bengali.
Last month, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat met the actor at his Mumbai bungalow, setting off speculation that he might join the BJP.
In 2014, Mithun was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by Trinamool Congress, as he maintained close relations with Mamata Banerjee. Previously he campaigned for TMC as well. However in 2016, he resigned after his name came up in the Saradha chit fund scam.
The elections in West Bengal are scheduled from March 27. It will be held across eight phases and the votes will be counted on May 2.
