I am alone now, only memories are left: heartbroken Randhir on brother Rajiv’s death

The death of veteran actor Rajiv Kapoor on Tuesday has left his brother Randhir Kapoor in tears. Randhir said that the realisation of his brother passing away hasn’t really sunken it yet. He expressed his grief at having lost several family members in quick succession.

On Tuesday, Ram teri Ganga maili star, Rajiv Kapoor died of a heart attack. Randhir said in an interview, “Rajiv was a very gentle and extremely jovial person. It is so tough to believe that he is gone. He had no medical history. His health was simply fine; he had no problems whatsoever.” (ETimes)

With the sudden demise of Rajiv Kapoor, the Kapoor family has now been bereaved thrice within a span of 13 months. Randhir’s sister Ritu Nanda lost her battle against cancer and died on January 14, 2020. Randhir’s brother, Rishi Kapoor died on April 30, 2020.  Ritu, Rishi and Rajiv’s deaths followed the demise of their mother Krishna Raj Kapoor on October 1, 2018, who died of a heart attack.

While talking about the personal toll of deaths of his 3 siblings, Randhir said, “I don’t know what’s happening. I was equally close to Rishi and Rajiv. I have lost four people from my family–my mother Krishna Kapoor, eldest sister Ritu, Rishi and now Rajiv. These four were my central core, with whom I did most of my talking.”

Speaking about the day of Rajiv’s death, Randhir said, “Well, I have a 24-hour nurse since I have a bit of a problem in walking due to a nerve-related issue. The nurse went to wake him up in the morning at about 7:30 am and he did not respond. She detected that his pulse was very low and dropping further. We rushed him to the hospital but all efforts to save him failed.”

A heartbroken Randhir further added, “Now I am left alone in this house.”

Instead of a traditional ‘chautha’, the Kapoor family performed a small puja for Rajiv because of the pandemic.
