Holi: More than 40 dead, 38 others injured across Bihar during celebrations

In the past two days, around 41 people including three children were killed and over 38 others were injured due to violence and accidents in Bihar. Five people were murdered in Patna alone in group clashes while four persons died in two road accidents in Samastipur because of drunken driving.

On Monday, the colorful festival of Holi was celebrated across India.  During the Holi celebrations, several violent incidents were reported from many places as groups clashed with each other.  The following are the incidents, that either injured someone during the celebration or t0ok their lives:

a) In Buxar, a woman (from Pandeypatti village) was shot in her leg after she opposed the playing of obscene songs by a group of youths near her house. She was injured after one of the revelers took his pistol out and shot her. The investigation is going on.

b) In Nalanda, 4 people, who opposed the playing of obscene Bhojpuri songs were injured after miscreants set 3 huts on fire at Miya-Bigha village.

c) In Bhagalpur, two communities clashed at Barari police station area after a group of people sprinkled colour on another group which was on its way to play cricket. The clash injured 6 people.

d) In Nalanda, a speeding truck hit a sweet shop near Telhara police station on Sunday evening. Six people were killed and more than 10 people were injured.

e) In Gaya, three Dalit children were charred to death and another was seriously injured during Holika Dahan.

f) In Madhubani’s Benipatti police station area, two groups of people clashed over a land dispute on Monday. Three persons including two brothers were shot dead while three others injured in a firing between the two groups.

g) In Sitamarhi, two bikes collided with each other on Holi near Mushahri village. Two persons were killed and three others were injured.

h) In Katihar, three motorcyclists died and two were injured in accidents.

i) In Kaimur, three people including a two-year-old died and three others were injured in two separate road accidents.

j) In Khagaria, a farmer was shot dead.

k) In Rohtas, one person was killed and three others were injured in a firing between two groups.
