Deepika Padukone honoured with Crystal Award At WEF; Emphasis on Importance of Mental health, Quotes Martin Luther King
The Diva of Film Fraternity Deepika Padukone on Monday received the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The ‘Chhapaak’ actress acknowledged for her efforts in spreading awareness about mental health.
Deepika Padukone also spoke about her personal battle to the illness. Accepting the award, the 34-year-old said that in order to create a “cohesive and sustainable world, now more than ever before, we need to prioritize the needs of every individual including those affected by mental illness.”
“In the time it has taken me to accept this award, the world has lost one more person to suicide,” she added.
Deepika also used the platform for sharing her personal experience with mental health, saying, “My love-hate relationship with the illness has taught me so much, to be patient for one, that you are not alone, but most importantly that there is hope.”
The actress received the award at Martin Luther Day and quoted the civil rights activist in her acceptance speech, “For in the words of Martin Luther King, ‘everything that is done in this world is done by hope’.”
Deepika Padukone also runs a foundation named as ” Live Love and Laugh” works towards providing awareness programs in schools in India, funding for free psychiatric treatment, medical education programs, and public awareness campaigns.
The actress quoted “Live Love and Laugh exemplify my personal philosophy to life. The foundation aims to provide hope to every person experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression,”.
On the work front, Deepika was last seen in ‘Chhapaak’ Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the movie is based on the real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi, who was attacked allegedly by a spurned lover in 2005 at the age of 15.
