COVID-19: Fresh cases crosses 50,000 for the first time in 5 months
On Thursday, Union ministry of health and family welfare informed that the fresh cases in India witnessed a jump of 53,476 in the last 24 hours. This is the highest daily spike since October 23 last year when 54,366 fresh cases were recorded.
The data released by the Union ministry of health and family welfare revealed:
India’s infection tally has soared past 11.78 million.
On Wednesday, India’s covid cases witnessed a jump of 53,476 in a day. The count has crossed 50K mark for the first time since 6th November, 2020.
Maharashtra reported 31,855, a new peak for the state.
Active cases rise by more than 26,000 in a day, the highest record since the outbreak of the virus. A total of 3.95 lakh active cases in the country have been recorded so far.
A total of 1,12,31,650 people have recovered from the disease. India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 95.49 percent.
On Thursday, 251 deaths were reported in the country. The death toll has been rising over the last few weeks. Currently, the toll stands at 160,692.
The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed 5.08 crore.
Due to the rise in corona cases, the central government on Tuesday decided to open vaccination for everyone above 45 years of age from April 1.
New Covid Variant:
A new double mutant variant of coronavirus has been detected in seven states. On Wednesday, the new variant has been reported especially in high numbers in Maharashtra. A total of 206 cases of the double mutant variant were recorded in the state.
Experts said that the emergence of the new variant partially explains the surge in cases.
However, the officials feel that it may be too soon to arrive at a conclusion.
