Since the multi-sport competition began on July 28, 2022, the Indian side in the Commonwealth Games 2022 has brought honour to the nation. The CWG 2022 is currently taking place in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where India’s top athletes have already assumed a prominent role. Weightlifters are among the few who have distinguished themselves, whereas the others are headed towards fame.

The opening ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games took place on July 28 and the closing ceremony will take place on August 8, 2022. While the CWG 2022 began on July 28, the beginning of the various sporting events was delayed until July 29, 2022.

A total of 72 countries, including India, will compete in Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games in 2022. Athletes will compete in 20 different sports at the CWG in 2022, and India has identified around 200 athletes and players who will participate in 16 different sports, including athletics, badminton, hockey, and cricket, to name a few.

India has won more than 500 medals at the Commonwealth Games in its previous 18 participation, includes 181 gold medals. In the 2010 CWG, which was held in India, they performed at their best. They placed second overall in the 2010 CWG medal tally with 101 medals earned. Look at the winners of the current game as India competes in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and aims to increase their medal total or even get near to their 2010 edition.

List of Indians who won medals at the Commonwealth Games in 2022

1. Mirabai Chanu

At the Commonwealth Games 2022, India’s top weightlifter Mirabai Chanu went on a record-breaking tear, winning four of them in a thrilling performance. On July 30, 2022, Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

2. Jeremy Lalrinnunga

On the third day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on July 31, India’s dominance in weightlifting continued when Jeremy Lalrinnunga won the second gold medal, moving India into the top six in the medal tally.

3. Anchita Sheuli.

Weightlifter Anchita Sheuli won India’s third gold medal at the CWG 2022, continuing the nation’s winning streak.

4. Bindyarani Devi

As India extended its medal-winning streak at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, weightlifter Bindyarani Devi earned a Silver in the women’s 55 kg division.

5. Gururaja Poojary

On July 30, 2022, Gururaja Poojary earned a bronze medal in the men’s 61 kg weight division in Birmingham 2022.

6. Sanket Mahadev Sargar

Sanket Mahadev Sargar, an Indian weightlifter, is credited with starting India’s medal count in the men’s 55kg division by winning silver medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

7. Sushila Devi

Sushila Devi Likmabam, an Indian judoka, advanced to the Women’s 48 kg final on Monday, guaranteeing India a medal in the sport.
