BJP releases list of 78 candidates for Haryana Assembly polls
Haryana Assembly Elections 2019: With less than a month to go for Haryana Assembly elections, the BJP on Monday announced its first list of candidates. While the one-phase poll in the state will be held on October 21, results will be out on October 24. The names of the candidates were announced following a meeting of the Central Election Committee of the party. Those who attended the meeting include party president Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Coming elections in Haryana will see a number of sportsperson making their debut on the political turf.
Wrestler Babita Phogat will be contesting from Dadri, while former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh will be the party candidate from Pehowa. Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt will fight the Baroda seat.
State BJP chief Subhash Barala will fight to retain his seat from Tohana.
Captain Abhimanyu, who is a Minister in the State government, has been given ticket from his current Narnaund assembly seat.
Another Minister Om Parkash Dhankar will fight from Badli.
Announcing the names of the candidates in New Delhi, BJP General Secretary Arun Singh said, the party has retained 38 sitting MLAs in this list while seven have been denied tickets.
BJP’s first list of candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections include nine women and two muslims. Last date to file nominations for candidates is October 4 .
In 2014, the saffron party came to power riding on Modi wave, winning 47 of the total of 90 Assembly seats. The party has high hopes of coming to power riding on the clean image of CM ML Khattar. This time too, he is the party’s choice for the top post.
