All international passengers being screened, India confirms 25 cases
The government on Wednesday said 15 Italian tourists have tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. The group of Italian tourists has been quarantined at an ITBP facility in New Delhi.
The development comes a day after an Italian tourist in Jaipur was tested positive for coronavirus and his wife showed initial symptoms of the virus. The wife has now been tested positive for Covid-19, taking the total number of positive cases to 15 today. An Indian driver accompanying 14 Italian tourists has also been tested positive.
Earlier in the day, the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, New Delhi confirmed the fresh cases. All 15 Italian tourists and the Indian driver have been kept at the ITBP facility at Chhawla. They have been kept in preventive isolation since Tuesday afternoon.
It is worth mentioning that the concerned tourists will go through further rounds of medical examination as they have shown initial symptoms of the infection. However, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has confirmed that 15 Italian tourists have been tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.
Till Tuesday, India reported 6 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including three from Kerala, who were initially tested positive and have recovered. They have gone back to Saudi Arabia. The health minister said that the number of confirmed cases has now gone up to 25 after today’s development.
Meanwhile, a man from New Delhi was also tested positive for the virus on Tuesday. Two schools in Noida subsequently suspended classes as some students of the schools attended a birthday party hosted by the same man.
