Ajay Devgn to play a real-life underworld don in Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi
The actor-director duo of Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to make a comeback together.
In the year 1999, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Leela Bhansali proved to be a perfect team with their work in the cult classic movie, Hum…Dil De Chuke Sanam. The mature acting of Ajay and Bhansali’s direction was loved by all. It is still considered as one of the most iconic movies made by Bhansali. Since then, the duo was looking for the right project to collaborate.
Though in the year, 2015, Ajay and Sanjay came close to working together in Bajirao Mastani, but the actor declined the offer. He refused the offer as he was working on something similar in Tanhaji.
It seems like Bhansali and Devgn are coming together again in Gangubai Kathiawadi. On the director’s request the actor has agreed to do a very special cameo appearance in his upcoming project.
According to sources, Devgn will be playing the role of a real-life underworld don in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The role is described as “short and powerful.”
Bhansali’s upcoming movie, Gangubai Kathiawadi already has ample of buzz around it. The movie features Alia Bhatt in the lead role and is a biographical drama based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It tells the tale of Gangubai Kothewali, the madam of a brothel in Kamathipura. Apart from Alia, the film stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz and Seema Pahwa in supporting roles.
Not only Ajay Devgn but also Emraan Hashmi and Huma Qureshi will be seen in special cameos in the movie. Though the release date is not out but the digital rights to premiere the film has been sold at a hefty price.
Ajay was last seen in the movie Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which was based on the real life story of Maratha Warrior Tanaji Malusare. The actor was seen portraying the role of Tanhaji. The movie was released on January 10, 2020.
The upcoming projects of the actor consist of films like Bhuj: The Pride Of India, Sooryavanshi and RRR.
